Gallup poll: 28% made major changes for environment
Gallup's annual Environmental poll, released this month, showed some surprising results. Even though there has been an increased focus on global warming and eco-friendly products, only 28% of Americans report that they have made major changes in their lifestyles. In brighter news, 55% have made minor changes. Seventeen percent report making no changes at all.Changes cited by respondents were recycling more, cutting back on driving, driving a more fuel-efficient car, using less energy at home, buying energy-saving light bulbs and making their homes more energy-efficient.
Interestingly, respondents who said they made major changes didn't report very different activities than those who said they have only made minor changes. So, we might be able to assume that 83% of Americans have made changes, whether they consider them major or minor.
The environment ranks only in the middle of a list of "problems facing the country," ranking far below the economy and healthcare worries. Gallup notes that environmental concern has been relatively flat in the recent years and often declines when the economy is struggling.
