Brita users: take back the filter!
Unless you live in Germany, which hosts a Brita filter take-back system in which the filters are reused and recycled, you're out of luck when your filter comes to the end of its life. You're forced to toss it out, wondering if throwing away a big, thick hunk of plastic is really any better than buying and tossing water bottles every week. There's no way to recycle it.But one intrepid American Brita user wasn't ready to accept the fact that the U.S. is so behind the times. She's started Take Back the Filter, encouraging Clorox executives to implement a program similar to Germany's.
It's easy to show your support: simply visit the site, sign the petition, and then, in the meantime, send your used filters to:

France, Austria, Greece, Ireland, Portugal and the UK, all have recycling schemes too.
