Blythe Danner unveils natural gas garbage trucks

Blythe Danner, environmentalist since long before being green was sexy and cool, helped unveil the new natural gas powered garbage trucks in N.Y.C. yesterday.

Garbage trucks, like massive filth eating, filth belching Hummers are one of the most polluting vehicles on the planet. At the current moment, if half the diesel fueled garbage and recycling trucks in N.Y.C. were traded in for natural gas trucks pollution would be reduced enormously.

In fact, Energy Vision, the non profit behind these new natural gas garbage trucks said in a press release that "more than 16,000 tons of pollutants would be eliminated a year, while reliance on a clean domestic fuel would eliminate the need for 23 million gallons a year of petroleum-based diesel fuel, which is getting more expensive by the day and relies on imported oil."

That's amazing! Let's hope that Blythe was able to bring some significant attention to this issue and that we'll see more of the new trucks on the road in the near future! They really could make a huge difference.
