Celebrate Earth Day Family Style
As Ring Madam of the Earth Day Celebration Portal, I present to you, the festival. Oh look at it parade in those bright lights! Those costumes! The hordes of people converging on one site with their children decorated in cowboy hats and face paint! And over there are the booths of printed information and buttons, candy and balloon animals. Heavens! Let's go!
If you are just getting into the whole "earth thing" a good starting point might be these ever-so-familiar festivals with an Earth Day twist. There are hundreds of family-friendly festivals. Let's start with the big ones.

- San Fransisco at Golden Gate Park
- Los Angeles at Santa Monica Pier
- Dallas at Fair Park,
- Denver at City Park
- Miami at Bicentennial Park
- Chicago at the Lincoln Park Zoo,
- New York at Central Park
- Washington D.C. at National Mall
In New York, you'll Big Head Todd and the Monsters amongst others. The Central Park Conservancy will have planting and composting demonstrations and help create the world's largest eco-art mural. Peace x Piece is an art and activism project run by artist Paul Kostabi.
This is the first big Earth Day celebration Dallas will hold with Green Apple. Los Lonely Boys will be playing alolng with Junior Brown. Part of the Green Apple's goal is to get one million Americans (or 1,000,000,000) to call members of Congress and advocate for greener environmental policies.
If I were in Mobile Bay, Alabama, I would be going to their Earth Day celebration for sure. It takes place at Fairhope Pier Park and it sounds like the bomb! Blues artist Grayson Capps and the Stumpknockers (nope, not kidding) will perform and recycling will be the theme. Bring your old electronics, plastics, cooking oil and whatnot to be recycled for free. There's lots more.
Can I make one suggestions? While you're out in the name of celebration and the earth, might you bring a re-usable water bottle, long sleeves instead of coral killing sunscreen and perhaps your own fork? I know. I'm asking a lot. Maybe bring your own biodegradable fork? Maybe just the water bottle. That might be a good start. Water bottles and non-chlorine bleach diapers. Okay, it's decided.
Ring Madam is off to present another type of Earth Day Celebration!
