GoLoco helps you find carpool buddies
Robin Chase never runs out of eco-conscious travel ideas. First he came up with ZipCar (which, by the way, recently merged with FlexCar), the program that allows people to conveniently rent a car for a few hours and then drop it off when they're finished, saving on emissions, money, and the general frustrations of owning a car in the city. And then, late last year, he came up with GoLoco, a site that pairs similarly-minded riders and drivers for cross-country treks that save on money, gas, and sanity. The site has had a few months to percolate, and seems to still be going strong.
Not sure how one would use such a service? The site gives you ideas: people use it for everything from carpooling to school to shuttling groups and clubs around the country to qualifying for the HOV lane on the way to work. The site helps groups share fees equally (like tolls and gas), and adds those to the base amount, which is miles traveled multiplied by 50 cents per mile.
