Win lunch in Beverly Hills with green advocates Christopher Knight and Adrianne Curry
Are you ever shocked and amazed (and I don't mean that in a good way) by the masses and mazes of cables under your desk at work? If so, you might be able to win a contest called "What's Under Your Desk," sponsored by Green Plug. All you have to do is take a picture of what's under your desk and mail it in for posting to the Green Plug blog. They will then randomly draw a winner out of all the submissions.
First prize is lunch with "green advocates," Adrianne Curry and Christopher Knight. Adrianne was the winner of America's Next Top Model and Chris Knight is better known as Peter Brady. The married couple now has their own reality show, My Fair Brady.
Second place will receive a $500 gift certificate to Walmart and third place will be a $250 donation to the green charity of your choice. The winners will be chosen on Earth Day, April 22.
Green Plug's CEO, Frank Paniagua, Jr. says, "Consider this a case of show and tell. We're looking for examples of a problem that plagues each and every one of us -- that unsightly tangle of wires, black bricks and wall warts that supply your computer, printer, phone, desk lamp and who knows what else. Just multiply what's at your feet by millions that's how it is that a staggering 379 million discarded and obsolete external power supplies are destined to end up in U.S. landfills this year alone."
Oh, and by the way, I think Adrianne might be pregnant. If you win and end up going to lunch with them, be sure to get the scoop for us!

How can a person in good conscience take a gift certificate (say what you will, but that’s what is is) to an “un-green” and unethical business. Just because of this I won’t be signing up for this contest or promoting it.
If…I do decide to shop at a big box store I usually chose Target since they offer more “greener” choices. Why didn’t Green Plug offer a gift certificate to Target or some local store of the winner’s choice inline with what Green Plug’s mission?
Or is this more green washing?

No, I think that Walmart was just one of the places they could get to donate to their contest. I also don't think Adrianne Curry and Christopher are known for being "Green advocates" but they were probably the only celebrities that the people could get on board. I don't know, I may be wrong, but I just got the idea that the whole thing is pretty low budget.
