Leonardo DiCaprio just bought an eco-friendly condo

We all know that Leonardo DiCaprio is one of the best green living advocates in Hollywood. He's constantly supporting green events and green charities. The man talks the talk and walks the walk. And now he's taking it to a whole new level.

The Titanic actor just bought a deluxe eco-friendly condo in a development called the Riverhouse in New York City. And when they say deluxe, they are not messing around.

The condo's amenities include children's playroom, indoor 50' lap pool, media café, fitness center (with yoga studio), indoor children's Light House, landscaped Riverhouse terrace and a dog spa.

The condo is as close to 100% green as any building could ever be. Building materials are all sustainable and were acquired locally. Paints, sealants and adhesives are non-pollutant emitting. Air to each residence is filtered twice for cleanest possible breathing. The water to all units is equipped with filters to remove sediment and impurities. The entire building is crowned with a photovoltaic grid for maximum exposure to the sun to create clean solar energy. Even the rooftops are green. 75% of all open roof space will be planted with trees and shrubbery.

When asked for comment, Leo's rep said, "Riverhouse is a prime example of how green technology is both accessible and achievable for new residential developments - it is a groundbreaking building."

And although he wouldn't reveal how much Mr. DiCaprio paid for the green condo, a quick glance at their website tells us that a 1 bedroom costs $835,000 while a 4 bedroom goes for $2,975,000. They have 2 and 3 bedrooms for prices in between those costs.

I'm not a real estate broker -- in fact I don't even have a single piece of property to my name. But those prices sound reasonable for such a high green technology building. We are constantly reading about celebrities who shell out millions on condo's in N.Y.C., so if the costs are similar, why not do it green?
