Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming hears from oil execs
Today, April 1, at noon ET, the Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming will hear testimony from leading corporate executives at Exxon Mobil, Shell, BP America, Chevron, and ConocoPhillips. You can watch the hearing live on via the committee's website. Chair Ed Markey will be inquiring as to why, in a time of record profits -- about $123 billion last year, according to the Associated Press -- the companies want to keep $18 billion in tax breaks.
Markey and others have been attempting to shift the $18 billion away from nonrenewable energy and toward "wind, solar, biomass and other climate-friendly sources" via the Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation Tax Act of 2008 (H.R. 2776).
If you miss the live webcast, the committee should have an audio file and witness testimony available on their website in a day or two.
