In a world where every time we turn around, it feels like another toy has gone toxic, North Star Toys is an oasis. North Star is a family-owned toy business and aims to make toys that can last not just for one generation, but for generations to come. They use only American woods for their toys and food-grade mineral oil as a finisher. Beyond their toys, 100% of the electricity that runs the shop comes from wind and solar energy, the sawdust goes into compost and wood scraps are donated or used for kindling. What's not to love?

The North Star Busy Boat, shown to the right, features colorful rainbow people, and goes for $16, which is quite reasonable for something of this quality. Take a stroll around their website to see the rest of North Star's wares.
