Honduran prez eats cantaloupe to prove that there is no salmonella on it
I have an uncanny knack for eating foods that I don't normally eat and then coming home and watching the news seeing that there has been some dangerous recall put out, on that very night. For example, I eat about one burger a year. I guarantee you, the night I eat one, I come home to a major gross-out beef recall on the news. And then this weekend I ate a whole bunch of cantaloupe, only to happen upon this news story about Salmonella contamination on some cantaloupes. (I'm fine)In response to this FDA report linking 50 cases of salmonella poisoning to Honduran melons, Honduran president Manuel Zelaya ate a cantaloupe on Monday. Zelaya was attempting to prove that last week's report was not true. And so far, Zelaya is fine. Let's hope, that no matter where the contamination came from, the 50 people who were struck with Salmonella are also fine, and suffer no lasting effects.
In the meantime, safety first. Here are some awesome safety tips for eating raw fruits and vegetables from Dalene.
