Hey you, Hotel Guest in Room 225. Would you like to reuse your towels?

If you've stayed in a hotel lately, you may have seen a sign asking if you would like to "forgo laundering" of your towels. So, how often do hotel guests say, "Yes! Leave them for another day!"?

Well, it depends. According to a new study, if the sign is a standard sign, 37.2% request to reuse their towels. But if the sign is specific, saying something like "75% of people who stayed in this room have reused their towels," the rate went up to 49.3%. Interesting that citing the specific room number increased the rate that much. What if the sign had your name written on it? Your picture?

It's also an interesting finding considering that most people try not to think about the fact that countless people stayed in a hotel room before them. And thinking about that might make one more inclined to go for the laundering.
