After a fabulous egg hunt this morning, my household is now left with dozens of brightly colored, plastic eggs for our enjoyment. Given my 2-year-old's attentions span, they have about six minutes to go before they are forgotten. What is the best way to re-purpose these orbs?
- Save. This is of course the obvious option but place this year's eggs into empty egg cartons and store for next year ... and the next!
- Play. Send the eggs off to a child's kitchen for pretend play (make sure that the eggs are lead free first).
- Pass along. If you have more eggs than you can handle, call a nearby pre-school or daycare center to see if they might be able to use them for crafts.
- Storage. Use the eggs while traveling to hold small items like earrings or other jewelry.
- Build. Get a start on next year's Easter wreath. Go to a local craft store and buy a wreath frame or make your own. Next, grab your hot glue gun and glue eggs onto the frame covering the entire thing. Voila! You've already got a head start for next year.

If you did not think of the first one (=reuse) you should not be buying them in the first place. But don't forget that you will have to reuse them for several hundred years. They are made from long-lasting plastic after all. If you treat them well and keep them out of the sun they will be a valued heirloom. Right.
Folks, if you cannot think of how to intelligently use any item more than once - DON'T BUY IT!!! This crap is on the market only because you buy it. Why this desperate search for alternative uses of dumb stuff? It does not end the manufacturing of the products. You (and I) - the consumers - are responsible for what is made and sold. That applies to anything, not only silly plastic easter eggs.
I would like you to encourage more personal responsibility rather than giving advice to diminish the effects of irresponsible actions of individuals. Even though this is really just a small one. Cute actually. The world would be surely a better place if we all worried that much about our plastic easter eggs.
Sorry about the rant. It is about the principle and the skewed priorities.

You can also give them to the local violin/viola teachers. They fill them with rice and teach vibrato with them.
