New showerhead conserves hot water until you're ready to step in
We all do it: turn on the shower water and let it run as we walk around, brush our teeth, do a little dance, and wait for the water to get warm. But after the water gets to its required temp, how much of that hot liquid goes down the drain before we jump in?Well, a new product could help to conserve some of the energy that is used to keep the water warm while we wait. Eco-friendly company Evolve came up with ShowerStart, a technology that senses when the running water hits 95 degrees Fahrenheit, and immediately slows it to a trickle. The water stays warm, but energy is conserved until you decide to hop in.
It may seem like a tiny adjustment, but even saving a few gallons of hot water saves precious resources. And if everyone used the new gadget? Well, here's how Evolve puts it: losing just a minute of hot water per shower while you wait can add up to 27,000 gallons of wasted water per year and an extra $75 in utility bills.
Sound good, but don't feel like paying the money? Register on the company's website to win a free showerhead. Ah...how refreshing. And if you really want to conserve, Evolve also makes a low-flow showerhead.
