5 ways to reuse a jelly jar

Despite the prevalence of plastic in grocery aisles, some things still come in glass. Jellies and jams come in jars in a multitude of sizes and shapes. Some come with cartoon images printed on the side to encourage collecting but what uses are there for your run of the mill jelly jar?

  1. Ant farm. Fill a jar with dirt, capture several ants from a single colony and place them inside. Then tape a piece of black construction paper around the outside for several days to allow ants to build tunnels.
  2. Glassware. It's no secret that iced tea tastes best when drunk out of a jar.
  3. Food storage. Use jars to store left-over meals or to hold bulk grains and rice. This is great for people (like myself) who are trying to ween themselves off of plastic.
  4. Lighting. Use the power of the sun to create a sun jar. All is takes is a jar, rechargeable battery and a solar light.
  5. Bank. One great way to save money for a trip or some other treat is to put all of your change at the end the day into a jar. You can leave the jar as is or decorate it with tissue paper or stickers.
