Give your used undies to Patagonia
This video is genius. Okay, so it's a little heavy on the Japanese stereotypes, and it's a smidge long. But although it's funny, the message is quite serious: recycle your polyester clothes and you'll be doing the earth a big favor.
Patagonia's Common Threads program encourages people to send in their used, WASHED old Patagonia clothes and mail them to this address:
Patagonia Service Center
ATTN: Common Threads Recycling Program
8550 White Fir Street
Reno, NV 89523-8939
or drop them off at a participating store. They're then turned into future Patagonia clothes, allowing the company to utilize fewer virgin polyester for future garments.
....and no, Patagonia didn't pay me to do this post. Heck, I don't even own any of their stuff (mainly 'cause I'm not a big outdoorsy gal). But as a company, it's definitely a model for environmentally-conscious, sustainable retailers everywhere. (Hear that, Wal-Mart? Take note: this is what an eco-conscious company looks like).
