From Chicago to San Francisco, Ann Arbor to Santa Barbara,
city officials and state facilities are nixing the bottled water habit and Seattle has just recently joined the prestigious ranks. While others have chosen to not allow the purchase of bottled water for city meetings or functions, some have stamped a tax onto the plastic-encased beverage.
Last year the city of Seattle spent $58,000 on the stuff but now Mayor Greg Nickels has signed the executive order to ban the city from buying bottled water for its facilities and events. Its not just about saving money but reducing the massive use of oil used to create the plastic bottles and the aftermath of them filling up the landfills. Being a great role model and encouraging citizens to adopt the same frame of mind, I applaud you Seattle for taking steps to ensure a healthier future for planet earth.
