Carcinogenic 1,4 Dioxane found in organic personal care products
1,4 dioxane is often found as a contaminant in personal care products, especially those that contain ingredients derived from petroleum sources. Studies show 1,4 dioxane easily penetrates the skin and the EPA classifies it as a "probable carcinogen." It can be easily removed by the manufacturer, but it often isn't.
According to the Organic Consumers Association, 1,4 dioxane is often present in conventional personal care products. Well, here's more bad news. The contaminant is also present in many leading "organic" and "natural" branded products.
Some brands found to contain 1,4 dioxane include JASON and Kiss My Face. Dr. Bronner's, Sensibility Soaps and Terressentials were found to be 1,4 dioxane-free, along with Aubrey Organics and Dr. Hauschka.
