Mt. Everest trail cleared of 17 tons of trash

Nepal's Yeti Airlines headed up the task to clear the way for hikers trekking to the Mountain's base camp. The trash was primarily made up of empty beer bottles and cans, which the airline will give to breweries to be reused. Other trash, such as paper, plastic and aluminum cans, will be recycled.

According to the Environmental News Network article, climbers have also found oxygen bottles, plastics, cans, ropes and broken ladders littering the trails.

I don't know who is worse off: the environment, or the residents of Lukla, the village that hikers must walk through to get to the base camp, who bear the brunt of the trash left behind.

Why is this happening? Whatever happened to "leave no trace?" Are empty plastic bottles and aluminum cans that cumbersome that you can't haul them with you on your trek? Come on, trekkers. Leave the mountain the way you found it - it'll be better for everyone that way.
