Vatican lists new sins, including pollution
In an interview with a Vatican newspaper, the Vatican's number two leader, Archbishop Gianfranco Girotti, when asked what he believed were today's "new sins," gave Catholics lots to think about."Ecological offenses" were on the list of "New Sins." This isn't new; Pope Benedict has made appeals in the past for the protection of the environment, saying issues regarding climate change are very important. The Vatican has also become more green under both Benedict and John Paul, with the Vatican installing photovoltaic cells and hosting a conference to discuss climate change.
The greatest danger, according to Girotti, involves bioethics issues including stem cell research. Other "New Sins" include drug trafficking and social and economic injustices.
A varied list for sure, with lots of food for thought for Catholics.
