Top 10 Green Reads for Kids
I'm not going to launch into some cheesy, emotional explanation about why it's so important for kids to be exposed to books at an early age...everyone always knows it's important for kids to read. What's more important is if we can simultaneously get them exposed to everyday concepts about the world around them. (Not that there's anything wrong with silliness, too - kids gotta be kids, right?) Here are our Top 10 choices for the best kids' books with an environmental theme or an Earth-centric plot. Read them to your kids, your nieces and nephews, your little neighbor next door. But don't forget to intersperse them with a little One Fish, Two Fish every once in awhile. Don't get 'em jaded too early...they've got their whole lives for that.
As always, your suggestions for additional environmentally-centered kids' books are more than welcome.

I've got a suggestion of another green book for kids: A Hot Planet Needs Cool Kids (http://www.greengoatbooks.com/titles.html), by Julie Hall. It's endorsed by Bill McKibben, the Pew Center on Global Climate Change, U.S. Congressman Jay Inslee, and Lynn Brunelle, Emmy-winning writer for "Bill Nye the Science Guy." Unlike other books for kids on climate change, this one doesn't act flippant or cutesy or talk down to kids. It delivers the facts and then uplifts with a powerful, positive message based on action and a new way of looking at the world. It helps kids develop their best selves as they confront climate change. It's colorful, energetic, and full of activities.
