Opt for tap water at restaurants, help kids get clean water
In a move to get clean drinking water to children who desperately need it, UNICEF is launching The Tap Project. During the week of March 16-22, patrons who dine at participating restaurants can donate a minimum of $1 toward the tap water they would normally be served for free. Every dollar will provide days' worth of clean drinking water for a child. March 22 also happens to be World Water Day, enacted by the UN in 1997. This years' theme is "Year of Sanitation," with "an overall goal of fostering economic and social development by accelerating progress of sanitation facilities," according to UNICEF's website.
In the meantime, the project is also helping out the environment by promoting tap water in place of bottled water (or, at the very least, encouraging patrons to request tap as opposed to bottled or sparkling). Tap water is a totally underrated beverage - it's free, it's healthy, and (unless you happen to live in Philly), it can be pretty tasty.
You can visit the site to see which restaurants in your city are participating.

"This is a very cool way to help out. By the way, did you also see the 2008 initiative from PUR where they donate clean water to developing countries? I read about this on this site: www.sendasplash.com but you can also access it via www.givepurwater.org/magic
I thought it was interesting....."
