Live naked, live green
We talk a lot about how you can reduce your environmental impact by cutting back on your consumption. Sounds simple, right? Use less, and you'll have less waste. Yet, we all indulge ourselves in a consumer item that, for hundreds of thousands of years, our ancient ancestors had no use for. I'm talking about clothing. Sure, it's helpful when it's chilly outside, but during the summer months, what's the point? Fashion? Modesty? The planet is on the chopping block, people -- we've got bigger fish to fry!
OK, for most of us, this is totally over the top -- I, for one, certainly won't be showing off my bits and pieces anytime soon. But for those of you with a more liberated attitude, there are plenty of ways you can enjoy life sans clothing. This page has a helpful list of links to nude beaches and resorts, or, if you're into reading about naked living offline, this book might be a good place to start. And, if you'd like to don your birthday suite abroad, check out the International Nudist.
In case you're not ready to share your body with the world, there's a number of circumstances in which you can reduce your clothing use without flashing unsuspecting strangers. Here's a few:
- If you work from home (every day is "no-pants Friday" at the home office!)
- When you're sleeping (you look sexier sans pajamas, I promise)
- Driving (just tint your windows, and work extra hard not to get pulled over)
- Cooking (why spill food on your favorite blouse?)
- Jogging (this is a bit of a stretch, as you'll probably be spotted running naked out in public. But the good news is, you'll be moving so fast no one will get a look at you.)

That would mean driving at the speed limit and that definitely will help with the greenhouse gas production.

Yes this is over the top. Let's be practical. My wife will never stop buying new clothes she mostly wears only a little. She'll never stop it. Would be miserable if we forced her to do it.
I don't buy enough clothes and would look better if I did.
Let's pick another way of saving the earth.

P.S. I did go to a nudist camp once. Rule of thumb: most people don't look good naked.

There are tons of ways you can do quite a bit as an individual to make a difference. None of it will be easy to do, none of it will make your life more convenient. But if you choose to do it and are looking for the HOW, go check sites like the one below and pick the suggestions that are significant.
Most of us North Americans cannot live perfect lives, but all of us can do much better.

BTW, adjusting your clothing can make a big difference. The reason why we often need air-conditioning and heating (apart from architects neglecting natures law's) is that we either dress to warm or too cold for the weather.
Why wear a suit jacket, long sleeves, long pants, etc. if it is 80F? Yeah, dress codes and air-conditioning. Not comfort.
Why wear T-shirt and be barefoot when it is below freezing outside? Yeah, comfort and the convenience of central heat.
Think about it: We use machines to make our environment more comfortable without looking at the costs (monetary and environmentally). Why not allow people to go to work in shorts? They noticed in China and Japan (I believe) that it saves money to loosen up on dress codes and reduce heating and cooling of office buildings.
And the last step (of first in my opinion) would be telling architects that you do not want a building that requires monster air-conditioning or heating devices to create a livable environment.
Obviously this does not work in all places. Some areas are very hot even when wearing very little.
In the meantime, dress for the weather as good as you can and allow your employees to do so instead of creating the weather with machines that pollute. However, even almost naked can be too much to uphold a professional work environment. There are way though.
Live intelligently dressed - live greener.

I live naked as much as I can. This has been a positive decision on my part for the last little while.
I've found that when I am at home I can be naked for most of the year. I can do just about everything around home naked, and it's much more comfortable than having to wear clothes. Being a nudist just requires a little more care at times; but it's certainly do-able.

Well Paul, you are doing the right thing for the environment ONLY IF you do not increase your heating requirements. While living naked may be liberating to you personally, using polluting machines to create an artificial environment so you can survive or be comfortable naked is inconsiderate to the needs of other human beings. You actually pollute the environment more by living naked while having to heat. I do not live in a country that can proud itself doing this right by any means, but since I am concerned about this I thought I mention it.
There are many, many ways to pollute less (see site below), living naked in places that need heating is not one of them.
