Which state is the biggest carbon polluter?
Which state in the U.S. is the biggest carbon polluter? Texas leads the pack on this one, and not by a little either. Texas pumps so much carbon dioxide into the atmosphere that if it were its own country it would rank 7th in the world. The reasons Texas is #1 appear to be a combination of a large number of coal-burning plants, several refineries and chemical plants, and a lack of mass transit combined with Texans infamous love for big "Texas tough" vehicles. Interesting how things evolve -- the cliché "everything is bigger in Texas" is no longer just inspired by over-sized pickup trucks and broad horizons...pollution is something they're doing in a big way too.
