Operation Greenbrew: Butte Creek Organic
For a city of around 85,000 residents, it's pretty remarkable that Chico, CA is home to not one, but two of the nation's foremost eco-friendly beer operations -- Sierra Nevada and Butte Creek Brewing. While not as well known, Butte Creek Brewing has made a big impression on those who prefer a beer made from all natural ingredients.Butte Creek started out as a traditional brewery in 1996, but soon became interested in brewing all organic beer. Somehow the eco-conscious attitude present in and around the town of Chico is able magically permeate the alcoholic beverage industry. According to representative Tom Atmore:
"Butte Creek got into organic beer because a good friend was running an organic winery (Larocca Winery) in the area."Butte Creek Brewing offers a Porter, Pale Ale, IPA, and Pilsner -- all of them organic. A disclaimer on their website says "Drink Eco-Responsibly," with Butte Creek's all organic lineup, at least you don't have to worry about putting lots of pesticides in the ground -- or down your gullet.
