Mexico City: one big traffic jam
In a city where the traffic and smog are so bad that drivers are restricted from driving on certain days of the week, it's hard to imagine worse news than to find out that the number of people driving has doubled in the past few years -- but it's true. Why anyone would choose to drive in a city like that, I don't know. With the city's public transportation system, Metrobús, struggling to attract riders -- only 74,000 passengers a day -- the world 2nd largest city is a wall to wall smog machine.
In 2000, only 17% of residents living in the D.F. reported using cars to get around the city. By 2007, the number had risen to 33%. Compounding the problem is that fact that many of the hoopties crawling through Mexico City streets are
