Operation Greenbrew: Sierra Nevada Brewing Co.

Four 250 megawatt fuel cells generate the brewery's power needs, all of them. Not only that, but their fuel cells run in tandem with boilers that recapture heat from the fuel cells, using the steam for boiling beer and other heating needs. As far as waste their management, last year they were able to recycle over 97% of the waste -- that's 631,490 lbs of cardboard and 528,320 lbs of glass, just to list a couple.
Water conservation is another top priority for a sustainable brewery, that's why Sierra Nevada uses only half the water of a traditional brewery and has also installed a fancy on-site treatment facility. Along with the treatment facility -- you guessed it -- a biogas collection system, turning their waste into fuel to run their fuel cells.
To get an idea of what they've done to set the bar for sustainable beer production, take a tour of their virtual brewery.
