Greenest Musicians: Dave Matthews Band

With the exception of the now-infamous incident in which tons of tour bus toilet sludge was dumped on innocent bystanders, Dave Matthews Band is totally into the earth. They were buying carbon offsets to undo the negative effects of their touring way before it was trendy, and went so far as to start NativeEnergy, where the CO2 offset purchases go directly toward constructing renewable energy generators for Native American and Native Alaskan communities. And they're encouraging their fans to follow in their footsteps by dumping their waste on people recycling and doing other eco-minded tasks.

A few other noteworthy mentions: DMB were featured on a Live Earth CD/DVD combo - the event is similar to Live Aid, but instead of AIDS, the cause du jour is the environment. They've have contributed over $4 million to various charities, environmental and otherwise, through their Bama Works Fund (all of the charities are based in their hometown of Charlottesville, VA). Impressive, eh?
