GreenBaby: Cloth diapers and more
Still not sure? Read more on the diaper debate.
Ok, so you're ready to take the plunge into cloth diapers, or at least learning about cloth diapers!
Cloth diapers can be categorized into four major types, according to Diaper Jungle:
- Flat and prefolds: Classic cotton square cloth diaper, folded to fit baby and secured with pins or a Snappi. Prefolds have extra layers in the center. Least expensive. Require a waterproof outer cover. Very economical.
- Fitted cloth diapers: Next step up from the simple flat or prefold diaper. Instead of being flat, they have elastic gathering in the legs and waist. Require a waterproof cover.
- Pocket diapers: Just what it sounds like, cloth diapers with a pocket for an absorbent material to be inserted.
- All-In-Ones: Diapers that function completely on their own, without the need for extra pieces like soaker materials or covers. Considered to be the "height of convenience" for cloth diapers, also the most expensive.
If cloth diapering doesn't sound appealing to you, remember to explore other options like Seventh Generation's chlorine-free disposables and gDiapers, a cross between a disposable and cloth diaper, with a disposable inner liner.
