Be careful with the plastic wrap!
Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is possibly the worst plastic, in terms of your health and pollution. To soften PVC, various chemicals, known as plasticizers, are used and these can leach out into food. One common use of PVC is in plastic cling wraps.
According to Consumer Reports, via The Green Guide, it doesn't mean you have to entirely ditch your cling wrap, but here are a few tips to deal with it.
- Never let plastic wrap touch your food in the microwave!
- If you can't avoid PVC-wrapped food products, slice a thin layer from cheeses and meats that have touched it.
- Store the rest in a glass, ceramic or plastic container that isn't labeled #3, #6 or #7.
