How to find an efficient light bulb that gives off pleasant light

Compact fluorescent bulbs are known for many things, but many people find the quality of their light, well, lacking a bit. Looking for an efficient light bulb that gives off as warm and pleasant of a light as possible?

The New York Times tested a whole bunch of bulbs to try to find some that both met the new efficiency standards of the 2007 energy bill, yet were still pleasant in terms of light quality. And here they are!

  • 1. Phillips Halogena
  • 2. TCP Spring Light/Soft White
  • 3. n:vision (Home Depot) Soft White
  • 4. MaxLight SpiraMax
  • 5. G.E. Energy Smart
Interesting to note that the first bulb on the list, the Phillips Halogena, while it meets the criteria of the new energy bill, uses quite a bit more power than the other four (40 W versus 19 and under).
