GreenTech at CES: Belkin Conserve Surge Protector

Belkin Conserve Surge Protector
Want to know the best way to save energy around the house? Turn off your appliances. Yeah, yeah, I know, it seems obvious. But I mean, really turn them off. A surprising amount of your typical electric bill can probably be attributed to devices that are always on in standby mode.

Your TV, stereo, DVD player, and other devices are always ready for you to turn them on with the flick of a remote control button. And while they're just sitting there waiting, doing nothing, they're drawing energy and costing you money.

That's where Belkin's Conserve Surge Protector comes in. This $50 power strip features 2 always on plugs for things you really don't want to turn off like your TiVo or VCR and 6 plugs that you can turn off by, you guessed it, zapping the power button on a remote control.

The Conserve Surge Protector will be available in North America and the UK this summer and in Australia and the rest of Europe this fall.
