For those who don't worship at the shrine of high tech, CES is an annual trade show dedicated to the shiniest, most energy-sucking gadgets in the world, and held in Las Vegas, the shiniest, most energy-sucking place in the world. For tech-heads, it's the Oscars, Nobel Prizes, and Disneyland all rolled into one, only with iPhones. This year, In conjunction with the soon-to-be-launched Discovery Green Channel, they're announcing a number of measures intended to give the event a green tint.
Changes include working with CarbonFund.org to offset the emissions created by the show, including exhibition space, shuttle buses and 600,000 hotel rooms. 75% of the food containers and utensils used at the Las Vegas Convention Center will be fully biodegradable, attendee literature will be printed on recycled paper, and the number of recycling containers on the floor will be increased. Even the philosophy is looking greener, with specific areas on the conference floor dedicated to sustainable technologies and development.
