CleanWell hand sanitzer with thyme oil
Hand sanitizers are generally regarded as overkill, because a bar of soap and water would generally do just as well, if not better. But sometimes you have a real need to sterilize your own hands, or your kid's hands with a sanitizer, like after a visit to the doctor's office where you suspect those toys your kids touched were crawling with germs, and there is nary a sink in sight.Jennifer Lance of Eco Child's Play recommends CleanWell Hand Sanitizer and Wipes. CleanWell claims that its products kills 99.99% of germs with a combination of plant oils called "Ingenium." The active ingredient on the label is thyme oil.
And just in case you were in doubt that everyone has a blog now, here is Cleanwell's blog which has some interesting articles on it about germs, antibiotic resistance and whether you are crazy for asking people to wash their hands before they pick up your new baby.
(Answer, it's a very good idea to make folks wash up or use some hand sanitizer before they touch your precious baby, especially in the winter months.)

I've got to say I disagree with most of this article. If it says it kills 99.99% of germs, that doesn't mean a thing. In terms of biology, there isn't such a thing as a germ. It' all bacteria or viruses. So saying it kills germs means it kills something which doesn't really exist.
And in the last paragraph where you get people to wash their hands before handling a baby I disagree with. How else will your baby come into contact with pathogens and develop a good immune system. People get allergies by not being exposed to pathogens from an early age.

I think the intention of the word "germ" was meant for the lay-person who lumps all bacteria, viruses and fungi into one. As to folks washing their hands before touching Baby, I agree wholeheartedly. I know that my child is going to catch something at some point, (and by the way, pathogens have nothing to do with allergies) so why willingly put her in harm's way? Would you shake the hand of someone you know who has been exposed to the Flu? After that person's hand touches my Baby's, her little fingers are going straight in her mouth...
