Natural disinfectants for your kitchen counter

Natural cleaners are all fine and dandy. But what about when you have to clean something like a kitchen counter after you've been preparing raw meat, a reader asks The Green Guide.

Mary Logan Barmeyer cites a study that showed that a safe way to get rid of salmonella, shigella and E. coli bacteria is using 3 percent hydrogen peroxide (which is the strength that is sold at the drugstore) and undiluted apple cider or white vinegar. Put each in a separate spray bottle, and spray one immediately after the other. Rinse and wipe.

Sounds easy enough. And it must smell better than some of those kitchen disinfectants out there.
