Recycle your empty prescripton bottles
I've already covered the fact that the best place for leftover prescription drugs is your cat's litter box. But what should you do with all of those attractive orange bottles? Recycle them of course!- Donate them to your local animal shelter, homeless shelter or free clinic to be reused.
- Use the bottle for storing tiny things like tacks, Barbie Shoes and screws.
- Fill with a couple extra buttons, thread and a needle for an emergency sewing kit.
- Use them as an jewelry holder while traveling. This will prevent tangling and the loss of many an earring.

How about a requirement that all prescription bottles be made from #1 or #2 plastic or glass which I can recycle?

Not just to Richard - to all recyclers!
Be creative! I've used old prescription bottles to do arts and crafts with kids. Wash and dry the bottles; put a coin in the bottle; place in a toaster oven; watch the bottle melt into a tear dropped shape; let cool slightly (until it is easy to touch); puncture a hole in the top of the tear drop; put a small ball-chain through the hole and you have a great hand made gift for any child to give to parent for Mother's, Father's or Valentine's Day!

Prescription bottles are made from type 5 polypropylene because that material best meets the USP light and tight requirements. These requirements help ensure the medication doesn't degrade in storage. There are centers that recycle type 5 although they are not yet everywhere.

also, preschool teachers love using these for storage and arts and crafts and even making lessons - check with your local preschool, kindergarten or montessori school too! they also make great musical instruments for small children - just fill them with different materials to make different sounds!
