It's not the smoking ban that's worse for the environment, it's the smokers. If smoking was banned, these morons wouldn't have to stand outside inhaling carcinogens and causing businesses to cater to keeping them warm outdoors.

I'm an ex ciggarette smoker who switched to cigars. Actually you get more for your money with a cigar. But that's another story. Non-smokers need to start watching their asses. Smokers didn't 20 years ago and now most smokers can only smoke in the privacy of their own homes or vehicles. Why? Because they didn't stand up for their rights. They never figured it would get this far. Now using a LEGAL product makes them social outcasts and in some instances, law breakers. Fast food is next, then maybe rock climbing, or trail riding on bicycles or canoeing on Sunday and hang gliding on Saturday and surfing except on every third Tuesday of the month that ends in the letter "Y". The ban on smoking is only the tip of a very large iceberg. Everybody needs to standby.

I wonder what you morons that think smoking should be banned would think about banning your morning coffee or your foul smelling after shave or perfume that you inflict on everyone or anything you like for that matter. Banning anything is against the US constitution...or at least the very idea of FREEDOM.
If you like the Idea of your every move being controlled by more rules regulations and bans then go to a communist country. I'm sure you will have all the control and limits you apparently need in your life.

well i live in cincinnati, the smoking ban went into effect 1 year ago today. I think it should be up to the owners of an establishment to have smokers or not. Sure smoking is bad , but so is most of the things we all eat. So much for a free country

It's not the "MORONS" who smoke that are the problem, it's the people who feel rights are only for people they agree with. The American smoker has been sent down to level never before seen as a pariah. We are not allowed in public in some cities as smokers (gay rights marchers are), we're not allowed in some restaurant smoking (perfume wearers are), we're not allowed in most sports venues (drunks are). Where does this end; seperate drinking fountains, seperate entrances, seperate lives!?! This is discrimination that the likes of Al Sharpton will always condone and never fight as we are not vocal enough. While we can still smoke in our own homes we must speak out and protest this discrimination and supression.

The problem in public venues is second hand smoke!
People who drink in public don't hurt your health (unless they get violent), gays don't hurt your health ...smokers do! I quit smoking 8 years ago (smoked 2 packs a day for almost 10 years, even when I was hospitalized for pneumonia-yep, that's right)-I can not believe I poisoned myself and everyone around me for 10 years!
The solution is to forbid smoking in public areas (even outdoors)

i am not permitted to smoke in front of my building (bothers those coming and going) at work and it irritates the hell out of me when people pull up in front of the building, smoke rolling out the back of their cars and complain about cigarette smoke. I have never driven a car so the way i see it we are even.

i just saw a news tickle that said products containing caffeine will soon be getting a warning label (i don't know for what as yet) and i've been seeing psa's claiming that the smoker next door is the next menace to overcome...i agree with greg, jim, mike, et al...what about perfume, cleaning chemicals, and oh, yeah, all those anti-smoking hypocrites that drive cars??? human beings have been ingesting smoke of one kind or another for most of our "upright" existence...

I'm from Shreveport La. and we have the smoking ban here in restaurants only and I love it....finally you can go into a restaurant and eat a meal without breathing in smoke along with it. The non-smoking sections are a joke where they continue to have them. I say keep jacking up the taxes on cigarettes...the people will continue to buy them even at $10 a pack...so they can inhale some smoke and blow it right back out while aging their looks, now thats being real cool ..lol. Ever see a 40 y.o. smokers face vs. a non smokers face? Glad I never started the filthy, foolish habit. A shame the young kids who start the bad habit , spending $5 a pack if not more for the name brands just to look cool and barely making over $5 an hour working....whatever...lol
