Having truly eco-friendly pets isn't easy

I'm an animal lover and have had pets in my life since the day I was born, and although I've heard that some things about them are particularly bad for the environment (kitty litter, for example) I had no idea it was this bad. It seems there are issues with almost every aspect of having a cat or dog, from the food we feed them to the toys we buy them to the plastic bags we use to clean up after them.

I'm sure the pet industry will be one of the last to jump on the eco-friendly bandwagon in an industry-wide way, but if you have pets try look for companies in your area that are making an effort in a more local way. And remember: cats love to play with second-hand string and dogs love to chew on old shoes just as much as they love playing with something new bought from the store!
