Curb the electricity vampires

Savings: Up to $17 dollars per year per appliance.

Even though you think they are off, appliances like your TV, microwave and stereo are still using electricity even as they sit there silently.

Especially sneaky are the ones that have a clock in them. Together, all of these pesky electricity vampires use over 5% of all power consumed in the U.S. each year. Plug them all into power strips with an on/off switch. When you are done, turn off the strip, cutting the electricity.

Ever heard of Energy Star? If you're ready to replace your appliances, it's an organization you should know.

Sounds like a good idea but it does have a side effect - with doing this you will have to reset the clock again so it is not a good idea. People will give up on the idea after a couple of reset.

Since I couldn't find a proper location to post this item, I'll include it here. Why doesn't the hot water manufacturers in this country manufacture hotwater heater like some countries in Europe have as an alternate choice. Let's remember that while you may be away on vacation your hot water heater is operating at all times to keep up the temperature of the stored water. In Europe they have small water water heater that works as a "on demand" water heater. Yes the slight drawback is that it takes a couple of minutes to heat the flow of water but is well worth the cost savings on your gas bill. The annual cost savings on this type would be quite high.
