This or That: Real or fake Christmas trees?

According to Larry West, most environmentalists would agree that real trees are the better choice. Some might say that fake trees are at least re-used every year, but West counters that with the fact that the PVC used to make fake trees is one of the worst kinds of plastic, containing many toxins and polluting neighborhoods near manufacturing sites.
Real trees aren't without their downsides. They often require pesticide applications and need to be dealt with once they are discarded.
The best choice is a live tree in a pot, with its roots intact, that you then plant once the season is over. For more about real, sustainable Christmas trees, see our Green Daily coverage here.
