Lose weight to save the earth
Can you save the planet while losing weight? Sure, and you can actually do them both at the same time, according to an article on Green Living Online. How? Walk or bike a half an hour a day and eat less red meat. If all Americans between the ages of 10 and 74 walked just half an hour a day instead of driving, they would cut U.S. carbon dioxide emissions by 58 million tons and lose more than three billion pounds.
Along with walking, shifting our diets away from meat consumption would also help, because it takes much more energy and land to produce meat than vegetables. The U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization reports that the production of meat globally is responsible for more than 18 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions.
Might be that little extra motivation to go for that walk and pick that lentil soup for lunch!
