Duraflames are green(er than they were)

Yep, you read that right! According to Duraflame, burning a Duraflame log is greener than burning good, old-fashioned wood. Here's why. Compared to wood fires, a Duraflame log burning for 3-4 hours requires 80% fewer resources than burning wood for the same duration while emiting 80% less fine particulate matter and 75% less carbon monoxide.

The petroleum wax that used to make up Duraflames has been replaced with wax from 100% renewable resources. According to Duraflame, they have replaced 320,000 tons of carbon emissions from fossil fuels with 320,000 tons of carbon emissions from renewable resources.

However, no matter what you're burning in your fireplace, fireplaces are notorious energy-wasters, so read some tips about how to improve their efficiency here. Also, check out the Java Log, which is made from recycled cofffee grounds and recycled paper.
