Burt's Bees gets bought
I've been buying Burt's Bees products since the days when you could only find their stuff in health food stores and they had like three items in their line. I've stuck with them as they've gotten bigger and to this day always have a tube of their minty lip balm by my bed. They are a company that has always been devoted to sustainability and the environment, which is why I was a little stunned to discover today that they are being bought by Clorox for $925 million in cash. It seems to me that Clorox is buying them in part to improve their own image and bolster their reputation as an environmentally friendly company. Buying that tube of lip balm is going to feel a little different going forward.

I find it annoying, for those of us who attempt to by non-animal tested products, that all these companies (like Burt's Bees and the Body Shop) get bought by companies who do animal test. This task is difficult enough as it is. This is distressing news, and I will probably stop buying their products all together.
Thanks for this information.

Oh, that's depressing. I was wearing my Burt's Bees merlot gloss yesterday. I've given the tubes as gifts to all my friends. It would be nice to think that Clorox will continue with BB original mission%u2014but somehow I find it doubtful.

Well, it's now time to change to Kiss My Face products. I've used them for years and love them! Plus they are vegan. I love them so much I'm selling them in my store. Great products!!

They are not buying them to improve their own image as much as they are wanting to change the products to FDA approved, full of dangerous chemicals, CRAP! They don't want any of us to be able to purchase anything healthy. Read Kevin Trudeau's Natural Cures They Don't Want You to Know!!!!!!!!

Yeah, Clorox is a chemical company in which they harm the enviroment. Burts Bees is the opposite. I don't see many previous Burts Bee's followers taking to kindly on this.

And sadly the founders of Burt's Bees allowed this to happen - for what, money?
Doesn't that (Clorox) go against the grain of what the company is all about?
Shame.

There is no reason to be worried about Clorox changing things with Burt's Bees. By purchasing Burt's Bees they now own the factory in which it is produced and to change/buy new machinery for a product that is already flying off shelves, would not make sense. I expect that everything will remain the same. No worries.

Oh no! I just finished putting my Burts Bees foot cream on the dried cracks of my feet and was still regaling in the relief it brought when I had to read this!!! Is nothing sacred?
I'm a working musician (harmonica) and use my lip gloss every time I play to keep my lips in shape. Please, oh please don't change the formula!!!

I don't know. I think that if it's less expensive to make the products using other ingredients, a large company like Clorox would go for the $$. I am such a lipstick addict. I probably could have flown to Paris on the amount of money I've spent on cosmetics. But recently, with the different reports of lead in make-up (http://www.safecosmetics.org/newsroom/ap_10_12_07.cfm), I've been using more natural products. I know it's just lipstick, but this news is a bummer.

I worked for a marketing company and one of their major clients was Clorox. They have a good reputation for their treatment of employees and company management. Don't jump to conclusions about their environmental policies and procedures unless you have hard facts.

It figures. As soon as I find a product with no chemicals. I hope they don't change anything. Clorox products make me sick, literally. Can't use them. I get chemical induced pneumonia. That's why I use natural products now.
