Tip of the Day: Get your co-workers to recycle aluminum cans
If your workplace isn't exactly excited by your eco-friendly attitude, start small.
Recycling aluminum cans is one simple step you can encourage the office to take. But how?
Tell them why, for starters. Ithaca College has a great fact sheet about green tips for the office. Did you know, for example, that aluminum is a sustainable substance that can be recycled over and ever again? Or that recycling just one aluminum can can power a television for three hours? Plus, the energy saved from recycling aluminum is enough to light Washington D.C. for 4 years.
That's not to mention that it's also a source of cash. The U.S. makes $1 billion from recycled aluminum.
Then just get a bin for cans. Make signs or send emails (or both) encouraging a change in behavior. You could also get a jar, and a attach a little sign that reads "Deposit proceeds." That way you'll get to show everyone how much money their recycling as earned. Use it for something the coworkers will enjoy -- a few aluminum cans filled with their favorite drinks, for instance.
