Soda-can-pull-top bags from Escama

Check out these bags made from recycled aluminum pull-tabs from Escama Studio.

Based in San Francisco, Escama works with two Brazilian cooperatives, Cia do Lacre and As Panteras do Lacre, to produce these bags using traditional crochet techniques. Crochet-with-tabs is a craft that is found throughout Brazil and it is not unique to Escama, although their designs certainly are.

The aluminum tabs are 100% post-consumer recycled pull tabs; they are not purchased from factories. The prices are quite reasonable as bags go and you can feel good about the fact that the artists who create the bags are earning 7 to 15 times Brazil's national minimum wage. Escama also donates 3% of their gross sales back to the cooperatives.
