Poisonous air fresheners
A recent analysis from the National Resources Defense Council (NRDC) shows that more than a dozen air fresheners contain chemicals called phthalates that may affect hormones and reproductive development. The federal government currently does not test air fresheners for safety. So what's the alternative? Well, it's the one that makes the most common sense. According to Dr. Gina Solomon of the NRDC, "The best way to avoid the problem is to simply open a window instead of reaching for one of these cans." Also helpful, "tending to the root cause of the problem," perhaps taking out the trash more often, is another easy step.
