Plastic lining makes Starbucks cups tough to recycle

a starbucks cup with the lid a jarStarbucks might promote recycling on their to-go cups, but it turns out that in most cities across the country, those cups aren't actually recyclable. The thin interior plastic coating that keeps the cups from leaking also prevents the cups from being easily recycled. Starbucks claims that using cups that are more easily recycled isn't an option, but cup manufacturers disagree, stating that it would mean an increased cost to the coffee chain but it would be possible.

It's just one more reason to bring a reusable cup with you to your local coffee joint. Just make sure that they actually pour your drink straight into your cup. Last week I was in my local Starbucks and they started to reach for a disposable cup in order to measure out my drink. I stopped them in time, but felt frustrated since that would have rendered my effort moot.
