Colonies taking over your water bottle

Disposable water bottles are getting quite the negative press these days and for good reason. A reusable water bottle filled with tap or filtered tap water is your best bet as far as the environment goes. However, danger still lurks ...

For example, 10 News in Tampa decided to test people's water bottles at a local gym and their own newsroom for bacteria. Ten colony forming units of bacteria (CFU's) is considered the max safe limit. The bottles they tested had counts as high as 500 CFUs, going up to 3,400 and one even had 650,000 colonies!

All reusable bottles need to be washed well at least once a day according to the article. Disposable water bottles shouldn't be reused at all, and if they are, only once during the same day.
