I reuse my bath towels on a daily basis. In fact I probably go too long between washings. This is a habit that most likely stemmed from college when the thought of washing a new towel every day in the basement laundry room would have been impractical and expensive. I wash my bed sheets weekly and turn off the light as I leave the room. These are my house habits.
I have very bad hotel habits. All of my energy saving attempts go out the window. I leave wet towels on the bathroom floor to indicate that I would like them replaced with a fresh batch. I'd be willing to let the sheets go a couple of nights but if I am at a hotel for a long time, I would request to have the sheets changed more frequently than once a week. Perhaps my habits differ because a hotel stay is luxury to me and I feel that I pay for a particular service. Fresh, warm towels are a treat as are crisp sheets. Admittedly, I am not a very green guest.
It appears that I am not the only one. A
report released by Starwood Hotels & Resorts found that most people will open a fresh mini bottle of shampoo with every shower and don't think twice about leaving a light on when they leave the room. Maybe guests and hotels can come to some sort of compromise. Hotels can agree to use as many earth- friendly washing and energy solutions as possible and guests will not leave the bathroom light on all night long or take hour-long showers in exchange for fresh linens daily.
